Advanced Endodontic Procedures

I specialise in saving teeth that might otherwise be lost. Using state-of-the-art technology like an operating dental microscope and 3D imaging, I perform precise, comfortable procedures to treat infected or damaged teeth. This page details the specialized treatments we offer, focusing on patient comfort and achieving the best possible long-term outcome.

🩺 Consultation & Second Opinion

Consultations & Second Opinions
Patients: Are you unsure if a root canal is needed or have been told a tooth cannot be saved? I provide comprehensive consultations and second opinions. Using advanced diagnostic tools, I will review your symptoms and X-rays, discuss all available options with you, and create a clear, personalized treatment plan. My goal is to give you the confidence to make an informed decision about your care.
For Our Dental Colleagues: I welcome the opportunity to be a diagnostic resource for your patients. My consultation includes a thorough clinical and radiographic assessment, often with CBCT for 3D evaluation. I will provide you with a detailed report and a collaborative recommendation on prognosis and treatment options.

🔍 Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

Primary Root Canal Treatment
Patients: When the soft inner tissue (pulp) of your tooth becomes inflamed or infected, a root canal is needed to relieve pain and save the tooth. During this comfortable procedure, we remove the infected tissue, meticulously clean and disinfect the intricate root canal system, and then seal it to prevent future infection. This allows you to keep your natural tooth for normal function.
For Our Dental Colleagues: Treatment is performed under dental dam isolation using nickel-titanium rotary instrumentation. We emphasize thorough disinfection protocols and utilize ultrasonic activation of irrigants to achieve a biologically clean canal system prior to obturation.

🔄 Nonsurgical Retreatment

Root Canal Retreatment
Patients: If a previously treated tooth experiences new pain or infection, it may be possible to save it with a second procedure. Retreatment involves reopening the tooth, removing the previous filling material, and addressing any new infection or missed anatomy (often very tiny canals) that may have contributed to the problem. We then clean, disinfect, and reseal the tooth.
For Our Dental Colleagues: Retreatment is a cornerstone of my practice. I utilize the surgical microscope to identify and negotiate calcified canals, remove separated instruments, and bypass obstructing materials. CBCT is also instrumental in diagnosing the cause of failure and planning our cases.

⚕️ Apical Microsurgery (Apicoectomy)

Endodontic Microsurgery (Apicoectomy)
Patients: Sometimes, infection persists at the tip of the root even after a root canal. In such cases, a minor surgical procedure may be recommended. Using microsurgical techniques, we make a small incision in the gum to access the root tip, remove the infected tissue and a few millimeters of the root end, and place a tiny seal to close the canal. This minimally invasive approach offers a high success rate.
For Our Dental Colleagues: Our microsurgical protocol involves precise osteotomy limited to the affected root, root-end resection, preparation with ultrasonic tips, and sealing with modern bioceramic materials. All treatment is done under the operating microscope, keeping our osteotomies as small as fasible.

🛡️ Resorption Repair

Treatment of Root Resorption
Patients: Resorption is a process where the body begins to break down and “dissolve” the tooth root. If left untreated, it can compromise the tooth’s stability. We can diagnose this often painless condition and intervene to halt its progress. Using microscopic techniques, we locate the resorptive defect and seal it with advanced biocompatible materials to protect the tooth.
For Our Dental Colleagues: We manage both external cervical and internal resorption. Treatment involves chemomechanical debridement of the resorptive lacuna under the microscope, followed by a restoration.

📐 Separated Instrument Retrieval

Removal of Separated Instruments
Patients: On rare occasions, a small file used during a root canal may separate inside the delicate root. While this sounds concerning, it does not automatically mean the tooth is lost. Using high-magnification and ultrasonic instruments, we can often safely retrieve or bypass these fragments to successfully complete the root canal treatment and save your tooth.
For Our Dental Colleagues: We are equipped with specialized ultrasonic tips and retrieval kits. Under the surgical microscope, we can often create a staging platform around the fragment and gently loosen it for removal, preserving the integrity of the canal wall.

⚙️ Surgical Crown Lengthening

Surgical Crown Lengthening
Patient Text: This minor surgical procedure is performed to expose more of a tooth’s structure above the gumline when there isn’t enough tooth visible to support a new filling or crown, often after a root canal. It involves gently reshaping the gum tissue and sometimes a small amount of bone around the tooth. This creates a healthy, stable foundation for your restorative dentist to place a final crown that fits properly, looks natural, and lasts for years to come.
For Our Dental Colleagues: We provide this service as an adjunctive procedure when a tooth requiring endodontic therapy also presents with subgingival caries, fracture, or insufficient ferrule for restoration. Our microsurgical approach ensures precise tissue management and biologic shaping of the bone crest to establish a proper dentogingival complex, facilitating an optimal restorative margin placement and long-term periodontal health for the tooth.
